Mexico City Nightlife

Mexico City offers much in the way of nightlife, from piano bars, to loud nightclubs, to floor shows and traditional Mexican music.  The entertainment possibilities are as varied as the city itself.  It is noteworthy to mention, however, that you should keep a watch on your wallet as thievery is afoot in Mexico City if you are not careful.  But don’t let that deter you from experiencing the late night festivities that are plentiful and enjoyable in the city.

1. Zinco, Motolinia 20, Corner of 5 de Mayo, Centro Histόrico - website

Enjoy live jazz music in a very unusual place – the security vaults of a former bank!  The acoustics are outstanding!

2. AREA Bar and Terrace, at the Habita, Av. Presidente Masaryk 201 - website

In the Habita Hotel in the famous Polanco section of Mexico City, this is a rooftop bar with a spectacular view.

3. Bengala, Sonora 34, Corner of Puebla, Col. Roma - website

Between live jazz music and rocking DJs, this bar is one of Mexico City’s hottest night spots with a variety of musical selections and much dancing between tables.

4. Jorongo Bar, Hotel Maria Isabel Sheraton, Reforma 325 (Zona Rosa) - website

If you like mariachi bands and romantic boleros, this traditional music bar and favorite hang-out of the locals is for you.

5. La Casa de las Sirenas, República de Guatemala 32 - website

Over 200 types of Tequila are waiting for you here, along with good food and a friendly ambience.  It is located in a beautiful 17th century building with a picturesque courtyard.

6. Palacio de Bellas Artes, Eje Central and Av. Juárez, Centro Histórico-Alameda - website

The Ballet Folklórico performs here twice a week with an awesome display of Hispanic dancing and Aztec rituals.  Many international opera companies also perform here.

7. Rioma, Insurgentes Sur 377, Near the corner of Michoacán, Col. Condesa - website

This is one of the hottest bars on the planet and very difficult to get into, but if you manage that trick, you will be among the mega-chic.  Music is of the techno, house, and European varieties.

8. Tierra de Vinos, Durango 197 (Corner of Oaxaca, Col. Roma) - website

This establishment is known for its delicious Spanish dishes, huge variety of wines, and terrific accompanying music.

9. La Opera Bar, Avenida Cinco de Mayo 10 - website

A glamorous and lavish establishment, the atmosphere here is unique with Beautiful Baroque ceilings, wide seating spaces, and an assortment of exceptional drinks.

10. Whiskey Bar/The Terrace, Campos Eliseos 252 - website

This bar offers a stunning design, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and a crowd because it is actually four bars in one, thanks to Rande Gerber’s unique styling and cool signature music.
